POSITION: Migrant/ELL Education Academic Tutor (Part-time)

REPORTS TO: Director of Federal Programs
SUMMARY: One to two days per week, tutors will help with academic content and course work.
Tutoring provides the opportunity for students to present questions and obtain individualized support for reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
Tutoring sessions will be structured in one hour increments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Facilitate tutoring sessions with students Provide the opportunity for students to present questions Facilitate student work and encourage students to ask questions Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as reading professional jounals and other publications Seeks assistance should emergencies arise Represents the school district in a positive manner Knows and follow school district policy and chain of command Performs other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required Must meet Para Professional requirements Associates Degree or 32 core academic credits from an accredited university (with a passing grade of “C” or better) or Pass the Para Pro assessment with a score of 460 or higher Bachelor’s degree preferred Current college student enrolled in teacher preparation program preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Demonstrate an aptitude for working with adolescents Work well with students, staff, and the public Excellent organizational skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Able to work under pressures and deadlines Maintain confidentiality of staff and students COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and/or employees of the district.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
